Arikadukka(Kadukka/kallummakaya nirachathu) /Stuffed Mussels Recipe

Mussels known as kadukka or kallummakaya in malayalam,is a popular seafood in malabar region of kerala.Arikadukka is a most popular snack of malabar region.Mussels are easily available in North Kerala.Arikadukka is prepared by mussels which is stuffed with rice mixture cooked within the shell and then fried.Let us see how to prepare this recipe



Preparation Time:30 minutes
Cooking Time:30 minutes
Servings:10-12 nos

Ingredients

10-12 Medium sized mussels
Rice flour-1 cup
Shallots-4
Fennel seeds(perum jeerakam)-1tsp
Water-1 cup

Marination
Red chili Powder-2 tbs
Turmeric Powder- 1tbs
Salt to taste

Method of Preparation

  • Boil the mussels in enough water till the shells open.Wash and clean the inner and outer part of the mussel

  • Crush the shallots and fennel seeds in a mixer
  • Add salt in rice flour and mix well
  • Boil water and add the water in rice flour and make a dough and add crushed shallots and fennel seeds mixture in to it and mix well

  • Fill the mussels with this dough and steam it for 10 minutes

  • Remove the shell and marinate in a paste made with  Redchili powder,turmeric powder and salt

  • In a pan heat oil and shallow fry marinated mussels both side
  • Arikadukka is ready to seve hot as snack

Tips
To make smooth dough we need to add boiled water in the ratio( 1 cup water for 1 cup rice flour)
