Tomato Idiyappam Recipe / Tomato Sevai Recipe

Today’s recipe is a healthy recipe with Idiyappam/String hoppers, because Idiyappam is a steamed food. Steamed foods are good for our health and its cholestrol free also as we are not using any oils for preparing this. You may think it will take more time and effort to prepare Idiyappam, but once you follow the recipe of Idiyappam in my previous post you will understand, how easy is to make this Idiyappam /String hoppers. You can check the recipe here Idiyappam/String hoppers..Today I am posting here a different version of that recipe, that is Tomato Idiyappam / Tomato Sevai. My husband always need some snacks in the evening, when he came home from his office. Oneday he prepared this Tomato Idiyappam / Tomato Sevai with the left over Idiyappam, which  I prepared for morning breakfast. It is none other than Idiyappam with tomato masala. It was very tasty. You can also try this recipe as an evening snacks for your loved ones with the left over Idiyappam/String hoppers. It is very easy to prepare. I am sure that all will love the taste of this recipe. Ingredients

Idiyappam/String hoppers-4-5 nos
Onion-1
Tomato-2
Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
Green chili-1
Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
Red chili Powder-1 tsp
Sambar Powder-2 tsp
Asafoetida-a pinch
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad dal-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves-1 spring
Oil-1 tbs

Method Of Preparation

  • Break the Idiyappams/String hoppers into small pieces. Keep it aside
  • Heat oil in a pan,then add mustard seeds and urad dal in it. Once the mustard seeds starts to splutter add curry leaves and asafoetida in it
  • After few seconds add green chilies in it.Fry for a minute
  • Then add onions and salt in it and saute it well
  • Add ginger garlic paste followed by chopped tomatoes.Saute it well
  • Then add turmeric powder, redchili powder and sambar powder in it and mix well and saute it well for few minutes
  • Finally add the Idiyappams/String hoppers pieces in it and mix well
  • Yummy Tomato Idiyappam / Tomato Sevai is ready to serve hot

  2. That is so wonderful to hear that the Idiyappam/String hoppers are cholesterol free. I am trying to convert myself to more healthy eating and I think seafood is the route to go. Unfortunately, I cannot break the late night snacking habit. If I made some of this Idiyappam and saved it for later, I would totally snack on it.
