Kaya Erissery Recipe- Easy Erissery Recipe with Video Recipe. Erissery is one of the main side dishes of kerala sadhya. The flavor of this curry comes from the roasted coconut that we are using for seasoning. The aroma and flavor of the roasted coconut that we are using for seasoning makes this curry unique. Here I am posting the recipe of an easy emissary. Normally it is made with a combination of vegetables and pulses. In this recipe I am using only one vegetable ie kaya/ raw plantain for making this erissery. It’s preparation is little different from the preparation of normal recipe. In normal recipe of emissary first we will cook vegetables and pulses then add coconut paste into it, but in this recipe we will add the coconut paste along with kaya and cooked. It makes it’s preparation simple. In this recipe we are not adding turmeric powder and cumin seeds while grinding the coconut.  It is very easy to prepare. Ingredients


For Coconut Paste:

Grated Coconut1 cup
Water
Other Ingredients:

Raw Plantain-2 (Sliced thinly)
Green chilies-2
Curry leaves
Salt to taste 
Water- 1/2 cup 
For Seasoning:

Coconut oil- 2 tbs
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Dry redchillies-4
Curry leaves
Grated coconut-1 cup

Method Of Preparation
  • In a mixer add grated coconut. Grind it to a paste by adding enough water. Keep it aside
  • In a pressure cooker. add raw plantain, greenchillies, curry leaves, salt and the grounded coconut paste. Add 1/2 cup water and cook it for 1 whistle. After 1 whistle switch off the flame and allow the pressure to settle down. Once the pressure is settled down open the cooker and mash the cooked kaya and keep it aside
  • Next we can do the seasoning. For that, heat coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, redchillies, curry leaves and grated coconut into it and saute it until coconut turns golden brown in color
  • Add the cooked kaya into the seasoning. Mix well and mash well
  • Kaya erissary is now ready to serve
