Sabudana is the one of the main ingredient that all will use while taking fasting, as it will provide the necessary nutrients during fasting. Sabudana roti / Sabudana thalipeeth is one of the popular snack in Maharashtra, which is prepared during fasting. It is a pancake made with sabudana. It’s preparation is very simple. First we will soak sabudana in water and then drain the water. Then we will add boiled and mashed potato, grounded peanuts and few spices in it and mix well and make the dough. we will make the sabudana roti with that dough. You can make sabudana vada also with the same dough, but for sabudana vada we need to deep fry the dough in hot oil. Compared to sabudana vada this sabudana thalipeeth is a healthy one as we are just shallow frying it with very little oil. You can prepare this roti within few minutes. Ingredients

Sabudana- 1 cup
Potatoes-4, boiled and mashed
Peanuts-1/2 cup, roasted, deskinned and grounded
Greenchillies-2, finely chopped
Jeera-1 tsp
Coriander leaves- few, finely chopped
Sugar-1 tsp
Lemon juice-1 tsp
Salt to taste
Ghee or oil for roasting


Method Of Preparation

  • Wash sabudana with water. While washing rub sabudana with your hands for removing the starch from sabudana. Drain the water. Wash sabudana again until water runs clean
  • Then soak sabudana in 1 cup water. Don’t add more water because it will make the sabudana mashy. ( Use the same quantity of water as sabudana for soaking)
  • After 5 hrs, check sabudana is soaked well, by mashing it with your fingers. If you can mash it well then it’s soaked well, if you can’t mash soak it for few more hours.
  • If any excess water is there, drain it with the help of a strainer. Let it drain for at least 10 minutes
  • In a large mixing bowl take drained sabudana, Add boiled and mashed potato, finely chopped greenchillies, cumin seeds, coriander leaves, sugar, salt, lemon juice and grounded peanuts
  • Mix everything well with your hand and make a dough
  • Take a butter paper and apply little oil on it. Place a small portion of dough on it and spread it into a circle shape. Dip your hand in water and spread the dough, so that it will be easy for you to spread the dough
  • Make a hole in the middle with your finger, so that roti can absorb oil and cook fast
  • Heat a tawa. Once the tawa is hot gently drop the butter paper upside down over the tawa. Gently remove the butter paper 
  • Sprinkle little oil over the roti and cook it on medium flame. Let it brown on bottom side. Gently flip and cook the other side also until it turns brown in color
  • Remove it from the pan and serve it with coconut chutney or curd
