Today I am sharing here a variety puttu/steam cake recipe with tapioca/kappa. Puttu is a popular breakfast items in some states in southindia. Especially in Kerala but also in TamilNadu. Normally Puttu is made with rice flour and grated coconut. Here I am adding grated tapioca/kappa with rice flour. This puttu tastes delicious. If you are looking for a variety breakfast recipe and if you have tapioca/kappa, then you can definitely try this recipe. For getting proper shape of puttu you need to make puttu in puttu maker, but you can make it in any steamer that you are using for steaming foods. Just make the puttu mix as I am explaining here, and put that mix in steamer and steam it. Only problem is that you won't get the proper shape, but the taste of the puttu will be same as that of the puttu you are making in puttu maker. Just try this recipe and let me know your feedback

Ingredients

Tapioca/ Kappa- 1/2 of a medium size kappa/tapioca (Peeled and cleaned)
Rice flour-1 cup
Cumin Seeds-1 tsp
Salt to taste



Method Of Preparation
  • Grate the cleaned tapioca. Add 1tsp salt in it and mix well. Keep it aside for 10 minutes
  • Squeeze out the water completely from grated tapioca
  • Add rice flour, cumin seeds and salt to taste to the strained tapioca and mix well. Now the puttu mix will be ready
  • Take a puttu maker. Add grated coconut at the bottom of puttu maker. Than Add puttu mix. Finally add grated coconut on top of the puttu maker. Close the lid of the puttu maker
  • Heat enough water in pressure cooker and let it boil. Once it started to boil close the lid of the pressure cooker. Remove the whistle of the cooker and place the puttu maker on it. 
  • Steam it for 5 minutes or until the steam passes through the holes in the lid of the puttu maker
  • Now the Delicious Tapioca Steam Cake/ Kappa Puttu is ready to serve with banana and sugar or any type of curry of your choice
