In my house I used to prepare Idli by soaking and grinding rice and urad dal, but one day I forgot to soak rice and urad dal, then evening I start to think what I will prepare tomorrow morning.Suddenly an idea came in my mind to prepare this nutritious instant oats idli as it doesn't require soaking,grinding and fermenting process.Oats idlis are less in calories than rice idlis and this one has many health benefits also, because oats are rich in protein and fiber.It will reduce our blood cholestrol level and these are good for weight loss.So now a days I will prepare these healthy Instant oats idlis whenever i won't get time for soaking rice and urad dal,

Servings:15 Idlis

Ingredients

Oats-1 cup
Rava/Sooji-1/2 cup
Curd-1/2 cup
Green chilies-2
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp
Asafoeitida-1/4 tsp


Method Of Preparation
  • Roast oats in a dry and hot tava for 4-5 minutes on medium low flame and set aside.Cool it completely,then grind it to a fine powder
  • Dry roast rava for 3-4 minutes till its aroma releases and add this to oats powder
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds in it once it starts to splutter add urad dal,green chilies,asafoeitida and curry leaves.Saute it for few minutes until the dal turns light brown in color
  • In a bowl take oats,rava and the above seasoning mixture and add curd and water in it and mix well to  a thick batter
  • Now add more water if the batter is too thick.The consistency of the batter should be like that of the normal idli batter
  • Now add baking soda in it and mix well
  • Grease idli plates with oil and pour batter in it and steam it for 10 minutes
  • Switch off the flame and let it cool for 2 minutes and take the Idlis from the idli plates
  • Serve it hot with chutney or chutney powder
Note:
  • You can add any vegetables like carrot,cabbage,peas etc to the above batter
  • You can add roasted cashew nuts for extra taste
  • You can use Eno salt instead of baking soda for fluffy idlis
