Karachi Halwa Recipe | Bombay Halwa Recipe | Corn Flour Halwa Recipe with Video Recipe. Karachi halwa is one of the delicious, soft and melt in your mouth dessert that you can prepare for any festival occassions like diwali. Karachi halwa is also known as ‘Bombay halwa’. It is prepared with cornflour, sugar and ghee and flavored with cardamom powder and dry fruits. It’s preparation is very simple, just you need to cook cornflour in sugar syrup until it reaches a halwa consistency. You can prepare this halwa within few minutes. It has long shelf life compared to other desserts, so once you made it you can share it with your friends and family at anytime whenever you want. Ingredients

For Corn Flour Mixture

Corn Flour-1 cup
Water-1.5 cup


Other Ingredients

Sugar-1 1/2 cup
Water-1 1/4 cup
Lemon Juice-1 tsp
Orange Food color-few drops
Ghee-1/4 cup
Cardamom Powder-1/4 tsp
Cashewnnuts-10, chopped
Almonds-5-6, chopped

Method Of Preparation

  • Take cornflour in a bowl. Add water into it. Whisk it well and make sure there is no lumps. Keep it aside
  • In a kadai take sugar. Add water into it. keep the flame to low-medium and stir it so that the sugar dissolves . Let the sugar solution come to a boil
  • Once the sugar solution started to boil add the cornflour mixture into it. Mix the corn flour mixture once again before adding to the sugar solution. Add food color and lemon juice into it. Lemon juice prevents the sugar from crystalization. 
  • Stir it continuously, Corn flour mixture will begin to thicken. Once the mixture thickens add 1/4 cup ghee in three four parts. As soon as you add ghee mix it well. Mixture will absorb ghee. Cook until the ghee is no more absorbed by the mixture
  • Stir it continuously and cook until ghee starts to release from the side of the pan and the mixture starts to leave the side of the kadai or pan. It is the correct consistency
  • Switch off the flame and add cardamom powder and chopped cashew nuts into the mixture and mix well
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased tray and level it 
  • Add chopped almonds on top and rest it for 1-2 hour
  • Finally cut it into square shape and serve
